Several players from Elkanemi Warriors Football Club in Borno State sustained injuries during an armed attack along the Bauchi-Jos road. The incident, which occurred as the team was returning from Jos, was confirmed by Ahmed Wakili, the Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi Police Command, during a telephone conversation on Saturday.

According to Wakili, the club’s Secretary, Dahiru Bala, reported that one of the team’s buses was ambushed by armed men. “The attack resulted in injuries to several occupants and the theft of money, mobile phones, and other valuables, though the total value of the stolen items has yet to be determined,” Wakili stated.

The incident took place on a stretch of road overseen by three police divisions: Toro, Tilden Fulani, and Nabordo. However, the matter was not initially reported to these divisions but to the GRA Police Station in Bauchi.

The injured players were treated at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) and have since been discharged. Wakili emphasized that while the Bauchi-Jos highway has been regarded as one of the safest routes in recent years, the command is determined to investigate the crime thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Specific strategies have been implemented to track, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for this troubling incident,” Wakili said. He added that officers from the tactical command have been deployed to intensify their efforts in making arrests.

In a proactive move, the police have urged the affected players to use the “Rescue Me” emergency application to assist in tracking the stolen items, particularly their mobile phones. This step is part of the command’s broader efforts to ensure safety and justice in the region.
