Court Restrains Social Media Activist VeryDarkMan from Defaming Gospel Singer Mercy Chinwo

Court Approves Withdrawal of Bench Warrant
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the arrest warrant issued against Ezekiel Thankgod, the former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, who is facing allegations of a $345,000 fraud.

The arrest warrant was initially issued on January 16, 2025, by Justice Alexander Owoeye after the EFCC filed an ex parte application seeking to compel Thankgod’s appearance in court to answer to criminal charges.

EFCC Cites New Developments
During Friday’s proceedings, EFCC counsel Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari informed the court of the decision to withdraw the warrant. She explained that since the charges had already been served on Thankgod’s lawyer, Monday Ubani (SAN), in open court, the arrest warrant was no longer necessary.

“We believe that the defendant is now fully aware of the charges and can appear voluntarily to respond to the allegations. Therefore, the bench warrant is no longer required,” Buhari stated.

Court Approves Withdrawal
Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the EFCC’s request to withdraw the bench warrant, effectively canceling the order for Thankgod’s arrest.

The decision signifies a step forward in the case, ensuring that the legal proceedings can continue without complications related to enforcement of the warrant.

Allegations Against Thankgod
Ezekiel Thankgod is accused of defrauding individuals of $345,000, a charge brought against him by the EFCC. The details of the alleged fraud and the circumstances surrounding the case remain central to the ongoing legal proceedings.

Next Steps
With the arrest warrant withdrawn, the focus now shifts to the court hearings, where Thankgod is expected to respond to the charges. His lawyer, Monday Ubani, SAN, has confirmed receipt of the charges and is expected to prepare a defense.

Case Highlights EFCC’s Commitment to Due Process
The EFCC’s withdrawal of the warrant demonstrates its adherence to due process, ensuring that the defendant has the opportunity to address the charges voluntarily. The development also underscores the importance of proper legal procedure in handling high-profile cases.

As the case unfolds, all eyes will be on the evidence presented and the court’s determination of Thankgod’s culpability in the alleged fraud.
