On November 12, 2024, Senator Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, were officially inaugurated as the Governor and Deputy Governor of Edo State in a ceremony held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. The Chief Judge of Edo State, Daniel Okungbowa, administered their oaths of office as they pledged to uphold the constitution and prioritize the well-being of the people.

Vice President Kashim Shettima led the federal delegation, joining other dignitaries and governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to witness the inauguration. Supporters cheered throughout the event, celebrating the start of a new administration.

Ahead of the handover, the outgoing administration under Governor Godwin Obaseki established a Joint Transition Committee to facilitate a smooth transfer of power. The committee, comprising members from both administrations, convened in October 2024 to plan the transition.

Governor Okpebholo, a native of the Udomi-Uwessan community in Esan Central LGA, holds degrees in business administration and policy studies from the University of Abuja. With a background in business and experience as a senator, he is poised to build on his predecessor’s foundation for development in Edo State.
