The Chairman of the Edo State Government’s Committee on Vehicle Recovery, Kelly Okungbowa, has revealed that over 200 government vehicles are currently unaccounted for.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Okungbowa disclosed that within just 24 hours of its establishment, the committee had recovered three vehicles—a Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses—found in a private residence.

During the operation, the committee also discovered palliatives, including bags of garri and rice (10kg and 25kg sizes), stored inside one of the recovered Toyota Hiace buses. These palliatives were intended for distribution to Edo residents but were allegedly withheld.

Okungbowa appealed to members of the public for more information to aid the recovery of additional government properties. He assured potential whistleblowers of generous rewards for accurate and verifiable information.

“We have recovered one Hilux and two Toyota Hiace buses from private custody,” he stated. “Reports indicate that over 200 government vehicles are missing. We appeal for more information, and we promise whistleblowers will be handsomely rewarded.”

He emphasized the public nature of the stolen assets, saying, “These vehicles belong to Edo citizens, not private individuals. It is unacceptable for government property to be stolen or misused for personal gain.”

The committee is committed to reclaiming all missing assets and ensuring that government resources are properly accounted for and utilized for the benefit of the people.
