Edo Governor Dissolves Tertiary Institutions’ Councils, Disengages Hospital Management Staff

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Governing Councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions, including Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. The governor also approved the disengagement of management staff at Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City, effective immediately.

These directives were contained in a government announcement dated November 20, 2024, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, and further detailed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua.

The statement specified that all members of the dissolved governing councils are required to transfer all government properties in their possession to the heads of their respective institutions. Similarly, disengaged hospital management staff have been directed to hand over government assets to the most senior officers in their organizations.

This move reflects Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to restructuring and ensuring effective governance in Edo State’s public institutions.
