Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has urged residents to engage in sports and physical activities as a means to enhance both physical and mental well-being. Speaking at the recent Olympic Day Run, Shaibu emphasized the event’s alignment with the values of the Olympic Movement, encouraging community participation in fitness and wellness initiatives.

Highlighting the benefits of regular physical activity, Shaibu stated, “I call on the people of Edo to embrace sports to build a healthy body and sound mind. The International Olympic Committee established the Olympic Day Run to encourage people to join the Olympic movement and incorporate exercise into their daily lives.”

According to Shaibu, sporting activities not only improve individual health but also contribute to overall productivity and national growth. “Sports promote good health, and being mentally and physically fit boosts productivity. The healthier we are, the more we can contribute to the growth of our country,” he added. He encouraged Edo residents to engage in simple exercises, noting, “Even a walk around your house or some basic exercises will improve your health and well-being.”

The deputy governor joined over 200 participants in the Olympic Day Run, which began at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and wound through key city landmarks before concluding at the stadium. This community event saw officials from the Edo State Sports Commission and local participants uniting to celebrate the importance of physical fitness and community spirit.
