Ebonyi Police Investigate Gruesome Murder of Businessman in Ohaukwu Community Attack

The Ebonyi State Police Command has launched an investigation following the brutal murder of Mr. Michael Nnaji, a 48-year-old businessman from Enugu State, who was attacked on Tuesday night at his residence in the Amaka Ngbo community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident, stating that officers from the Ohaukwu Divisional Headquarters swiftly responded to the crime scene after receiving the report. While no arrests have been made yet, Ukandu assured that the command is committed to pursuing all leads to apprehend those responsible.

Nnaji, an active member of the local security, was reportedly ambushed around 9:45 pm by two masked gunmen who arrived on a motorcycle. According to a family source, the attackers entered the compound from different directions, cornered Nnaji in his living room, and shot him twice before setting him and his belongings on fire. Other valuables, including electronics, furniture, and cash, were completely destroyed in the blaze.

The source described Nnaji as a peaceful and friendly member of the community, expressing shock at the attack’s viciousness. The victim’s remains were later transported to Ezza Ngbo General Hospital mortuary. Community members, visibly shaken, gathered to discuss the tragic incident, with many expressing alarm at the rise in violent crime in the area.

The Ohaukwu Council Chairman, Mr. Ikechukwu Odono, was among the early officials on the scene, where he pledged his support for an in-depth investigation to bring justice for Nnaji and ensure peace within the community.
