Stakeholders in Delta State’s entertainment industry have rallied behind Sheriff Oborevwori, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the March 18 election. This endorsement comes from a wide spectrum of the state’s entertainment community, including actors, actresses, comedians, musicians, DJs, content creators, and more, totaling over 1,800 members.
Operating under the aegis of Delta Entertainment Stakeholders (DES), the group collectively announced their support for the PDP candidate and his running mate, Onyeme, following a comprehensive evaluation of all candidates. The endorsement was detailed in a communique issued after their meeting in Asaba, which was signed by key members: Rume Aku (Chairman), Oyubu Joy Aghogho (Secretary), Ochuko Akpovwowo (Delta Central Coordinator), Dike Emmanuel (Delta North Coordinator), and Harry Allen Preye (Delta South Coordinator).
The stakeholders emphasized that their decision was largely influenced by the contributions of the outgoing governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to the state’s entertainment sector. Okowa has been recognized for incorporating creative professionals into his administration, furthering the growth and sustainability of the entertainment industry in Delta State.
“DES, with a membership of over 1,800, urges Deltans to vote for the PDP candidate to ensure continuity of the progressive spirits of unity, faith, resilience, courage, patriotism, and dignity of labour that are deeply associated with Deltans,” the communique read. The group also highlighted their dissatisfaction with the current national leadership under the All Progressives Congress (APC), criticizing the federal government’s lack of support for the entertainment industry and its failure to foster an enabling environment for growth.
Additionally, the DES voiced concerns over widespread insecurity and economic hardship, attributing much of these issues to the APC-led government’s handling of the country’s affairs. They also lamented the difficulties Nigerians face, particularly the ongoing fuel crisis, which has severely impacted their livelihoods.
After thorough consideration, the group determined that Oborevwori’s leadership, paired with Onyeme as his deputy, represented the best opportunity for Delta State to continue progressing and navigating through the challenges faced by the country under the current administration.
