Voters in polling units 01, 05, and 13 of Ward 8, Ilisan in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State were left waiting as materials and officials from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) failed to arrive on time for Saturday’s local government election. The election, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., had yet to commence as of 8:51 a.m., leaving many residents visibly frustrated.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, an elderly voter, Pa Adetayo Joseph, said, “Accreditation was supposed to start at 8 a.m., but it is almost 9 a.m., and no officials are in sight. This kind of delay discourages people, and some voters might leave without casting their votes. We urge OGSIEC to expedite their process.”
Another voter, Samuel Thumba, echoed similar frustrations: “This is unfair. We’ve been waiting, and it’s almost 9 a.m. with no officials present. People are already leaving. OGSIEC should communicate whether they’re coming or not instead of wasting our time.”
Despite the delay, there was a visible presence of security personnel from the police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to maintain law and order. However, movement restrictions appeared ineffective as people were observed going about their daily activities in vehicles and on motorcycles.
The delays have raised concerns about voter turnout and the efficiency of the election process in the area.
