Prominent businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has thrown his weight behind former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha’s appeal for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Cubana Chief Priest took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a video of Okorocha’s tribute to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. In his tribute, Okorocha called on the Nigerian government to release Kanu as a means of honouring Ubah’s legacy and promoting peace in the Southeastern region.

Tagging Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Cubana Chief Priest expressed that Kanu’s release would help stabilize the Southeast, foster peace, and allow Igbos to rebuild their region.

He wrote, “Those pleas from Owelle Ndi Igbo are all we ask for our dear in-law. Let Ohamadike Ndi Igbo, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, come back home soon.”

Cubana Chief Priest also lamented the adverse effects of Kanu’s detention on the Southeast, highlighting restricted access to hometowns and widespread instability. “It’s been almost five years now; we still cannot access our hometown. Only his release can restore peace to our region,” he added. “We have lost many lives and properties. We need to rebuild the South-East ASAP. Make una help us.”

During his tribute, Okorocha urged Senate President Akpabio to deliver the message to the Nigerian government, emphasizing that Kanu’s release would be a unifying gesture for the Igbos.

Nnamdi Kanu has been detained since June 2021, a situation that has drawn repeated calls for his release from groups like Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and his supporters. Advocates for his freedom believe it would pave the way for peace and stability in the region.
