The National Civil Society Coalition (NCSCN) plans an independent assessment of the Port Harcourt Refinery in January 2025.
This follows public interest in the refinery’s performance after a $1.5 billion rehabilitation and its November 2024 reopening, which restored a 60,000-barrel-per-day capacity.
NCSCN head, Blessing Akinsolotu, stated the visit is essential to address doubts about the refinery’s integrity and production targets.
A 50-member committee will evaluate operations, ensuring transparency and rebuilding public trust.
The coalition praised the refinery’s role in stabilizing fuel supply during the festive season and commended the NNPCL for exceeding its 2024 profit projections, recording N3.29 trillion.
Experts see the refinery as vital to reducing dependence on imported fuels but stress the
need for proper oversight to ensure long-term success.
This evaluation highlights the role of civil society in promoting accountability and ensuring infrastructure projects deliver on promises.
