COVID-19 may spread to other countries by 2022—Fauci

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden and Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the United States, believes that COVID-19 may become an endemic infection in 2022.

If specific conditions are not met, COVID-19 would transition from a pandemic to an endemic disease in 2022, according to Fauci.

According to Yahoo Finance, Dr. Fauci stated that a significant section of the population does not utilize a very safe and successful strategy.

He pointed out that the reaction to an already demanding task posed by a highly evasive virus was becoming more difficult if the intervention was ignored.

He went on to say that he is concerned about the unvaccinated people and how that will affect things in 2022.

According to Fauci, a virus can only be classified as endemic if “a combination of enough people vaccinated and boosted together with people who are infected and recover and have a degree of immunity — hopefully they’ll wind up getting vaccinated too — and you have a virus, a variant, that has a lesser degree of pathogenicity” and it isn’t causing problems for society.

The worst-case scenario, according to him, would be if we were to contract a different strain that managed to evade the immune system.

Fauci remarked, “I hope that’s not the case.”

He continued, “What makes it less likely, but not impossible, is that by then, you will have so many people infected and vaccinated, that you might have a level of community protection that would protect you from the severity of the next variant, even if it wouldn’t keep you safe from the next one.”
