The authorities of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Worldwide have announced the funeral arrangements for Pastor John Obafemi, the fifth President of the church, who passed away on November 22, 2024, at the age of 111. The funeral will take place on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Funeral Programme Details
According to a statement signed by the Director of Publicity for the church, Pastor Alawode Ademisoye, the funeral ceremonies began with a Service of Songs held at Pastor Obafemi’s residence in Lagos on January 16, 2025. The events will proceed to his hometown, Isare Opin in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, on January 23, where a Christian Wake Service will be held.
The interment and outing services will take place at the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Alaafia District Headquarters in Isare Opin on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 9:00 am.
Legacy of Pastor John Obafemi
Pastor Obafemi was a distinguished retired military officer, holding the title of the oldest retired officer in the Nigerian Army at the time of his passing. He was appointed as the fifth President of CAC on June 9, 1993, during a critical period in the church’s history. His leadership played a pivotal role in unifying the church, and he served until his retirement in 1997.
The church noted that Pastor Obafemi’s long life and contributions to the faith have left a lasting legacy. “He lived to a ripe, old age of 111 years,” the statement read.
Ministers at the Service
Pastor Samuel Oladele, the President of CAC, Nigeria and Overseas, along with other principal officers of the church, will minister at the burial and outing services. The church community has come together to honor Pastor Obafemi’s life and service to both the military and the church.
