Nigeria’s representative at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, Chidimma Adetshina, has expressed her elation after finishing as the first runner-up at the global pageant held in Mexico City on Sunday. The prestigious event, held at the Arena CDMX, culminated in a thrilling showdown between Adetshina and Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, who ultimately claimed the crown, succeeding Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.

Adetshina, who made history with her outstanding achievement, shared her excitement in a post-pageant interview released by the Miss Universe Nigeria organisation on X.com. She said, “I’m so excited. I don’t have words to describe what I’m feeling right now, but I’m so proud of myself, and I just made history!”

The competition featured 126 contestants from around the world, including representatives from 18 African nations. Adetshina’s grace, poise, and exceptional performance earned her widespread admiration from the judges and audience, solidifying her position as one of the leading contenders in the competition.

Adetshina’s journey to the Miss Universe stage was marked by determination and resilience. Earlier this year, she faced challenges when she withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 competition, where she had reached the final stage, due to controversy surrounding her nationality. Undeterred, she later participated in Miss Universe Nigeria, representing Taraba State, where she emerged as the winner.

Her remarkable achievement at the Miss Universe competition not only places Nigeria prominently on the global pageantry stage but also highlights her perseverance and ability to overcome obstacles to reach extraordinary heights.
