Candidates should avoid polarizing politics, Governor Sule advises

Abdullahi-Sule

Engineer Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, has urged candidates running for various state offices to refrain from taking any activities that would cause a disturbance in the peace.

He cautioned that the administration under his guidance will not condone politics of division, rivalry and thuggery as the campaign commences ahead of the elections.

He urged politicians to follow the laws and regulations, pointing out that the Electoral Act, 2022 and the nation’s constitution established the guidelines for conduct during campaigns and elections.

His budget proposal, which he is presenting to the State House of Assembly for approval, includes the warning.

He urged the people to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in all elections, citing its past performance as justification, so that the party could build on its current success.

“Let me take this opportunity to appeal to my brothers and sisters who are running for office from various political parties to play politics in line with the rules of engagement,” he said.

“I implore you to engage in politics without harboring resentment and to conduct your campaigns in a way that will further the advancement and development of our beloved State. Everyone in Nasarawa State benefits from peace. Its absence will impact everyone.

“Let me reiterate that we cannot support politics of separation, rivalry, and thuggery in our beloved State as a people with a single destiny.

“I call on the people of Nasarawa State to see what this Administration has done in all spheres of human development as a yardstick for voting for right candidates in the forthcoming general election for continuity and sustainable progress and development of Nasarawa State.”
