Social media personality Okuneye Idris, widely known as Bobrisky, was reportedly removed from a KLM flight bound for Amsterdam late Thursday night and detained by immigration officers. The popular cross-dresser took to Instagram to inform followers of his arrest, alleging that he was injured during a confrontation with the officers and claiming the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was behind his detainment. He posted, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
This incident follows a series of legal challenges for Bobrisky, who, in April 2024, was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse. While officially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports indicated he was moved to a private location after just three weeks, leading to speculation of preferential treatment allegedly secured through a ₦15 million bribe.
The situation intensified when, in October, an audio recording surfaced, allegedly featuring Bobrisky claiming that musician Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, had solicited ₦10 million from him to secure a presidential pardon during his imprisonment. Both Falz and Falana swiftly responded, issuing a cease-and-desist letter on October 16, 2024, demanding an apology and retraction, labeling the statements as defamatory. Bobrisky has since denied the claims, stating he had no involvement in the leaked audio and urging the Falanas to address their grievances with the individual responsible for the leak.
As of now, it remains unclear what additional charges or conditions may apply to Bobrisky’s latest detainment, or if this development will impact his ongoing legal battles.
