The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended seven individuals involved in various robbery and theft cases, recovering stolen items in the process. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the Yelwa Divisional Police Headquarters arrested six suspects linked to armed robbery, conspiracy, and aiding criminal activities. The suspects, identified as Musa Umar (17), Ibrahim Mohammed (17), Bilal Musa (17), Idriss Jibrin (17), and Maryam Salisu (40), were found in possession of stolen items, including two laptops, four mobile phones, three chargers, two flashlights, three bottles of palm oil, one headphone set, one power bank, and an MP3 player.
In a separate case, Adamu Mohammed (22), a security guard from GRA Bauchi, was arrested for allegedly stealing an armored cable from his workplace. The PPRO revealed that the suspect confessed to the theft during questioning and will face charges upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police also re-arrested an ex-convict, Jaafar Lawan (34), who had previously been convicted in July 2023 for attacking a commercial motorcyclist with a trailer-wheel spanner. Jaafar was recently linked to another robbery case filed on November 17, 2024, at the Dutsen Tanshi Division.
According to the complaint, Jaafar lured his victim under the guise of requesting a ride and used a substance to render the victim unconscious. The victim regained consciousness three days later in a hospital. Investigations are ongoing, and Jaafar will face new charges in court.
The Bauchi State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety during the festive season. Residents were urged to report any suspicious activities to support the police in maintaining a crime-free environment.
“These proactive measures are part of the command’s strategy to ensure a secure and crime-free Yuletide for all citizens,” Wakil stated.
