Tania Omotayo, an author, model, and entrepreneur, has launched her children’s book titled Sarai’s Culture Day in Lagos, aimed at fostering cultural pride and self-confidence among young readers. Inspired by her three-year-old daughter, Sarai, the book encourages children to embrace their unique identities while learning about different cultures. Omotayo emphasized the importance of originality, saying, “I want young people to understand that they are uniquely perfect just the way they are, irrespective of race, religion, and culture.”
Published by Kunda Kids and illustrated by Chike Obasi, Sarai’s Culture Day uses cultural elements such as music, fashion, food, and history to teach young readers about self-acceptance, kindness, and respect for diversity. Omotayo highlighted that the book serves as a guide for parents and educators to connect children with their heritage, which can significantly impact their self-image and foster inclusivity. Additionally, it touches on vital skills like advocacy and anti-bullying.
Louisa Olafuyi, Co-founder of Kunda Kids, echoed Omotayo’s sentiments, stressing that “embracing culture positively shapes how children perceive themselves and others.” Olafuyi explained that Sarai’s Culture Day provides a practical way for parents and teachers to celebrate cultural heritage, empowering children to view their backgrounds as a source of pride.
