In the early hours of Friday, armed security operatives took control of the Kano Emir’s Palace at Kofar Kudu, restricting entry and exit. The heightened security coincided with Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s scheduled plans to accompany Alhaji Munir Sanusi, the newly-appointed Wamban Kano, to his district posting in Bichi.

Bichi, one of the four emirates created during former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s tenure, was recently dissolved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, adding to speculation about the motives behind the security measures.

Sources confirmed that the Bichi Emir’s Palace is also under tight surveillance, with armed police deployed to the area. However, the reasons for the heavy security presence at both locations remain unclear as of this report.

Attempts to reach the Kano State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, for clarification were unsuccessful, as his phone was unreachable.

The developments left many traditional rulers and title holders stranded at the Kano Emir’s Palace. Observers noted that several dignitaries abandoned their vehicles within the palace grounds and walked to the central mosque for Friday prayers. Human and vehicular movement around the palace remained heavily restricted, with security operatives maintaining vigilance.

A source within the palace confirmed that the Emir was still inside while many visitors had departed for prayers. The situation has created an air of uncertainty, with residents and observers closely monitoring developments.
