The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected Chief Tony Okocha as its new chairman in a state delegate congress held on Saturday in Port Harcourt. Okocha, who previously served as the party’s Caretaker Committee Chairman, was elected unopposed alongside other executive members in a process overseen by Dr. Adoye Omalez, representing the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The peaceful congress was lauded by Chief Victor Giadom, the APC National Vice Chairman, South-South, who highlighted the unity within the party in Rivers State. Giadom called on members to support the new leadership as they work toward strengthening the party.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Okocha expressed gratitude to party members for their confidence and pledged to lead the APC to victory in the 2027 general elections in Rivers State. He emphasized that the successful conduct of the delegate congress disproved claims of disunity within the party.

Okocha praised President Bola Tinubu for his achievements, particularly the resumption of production at the Port Harcourt Refinery, and outlined the party’s vision for the state. He declared the APC’s intent to unseat the current state government and secure victories in local, state, and federal elections.

“By 2027, with God keeping us alive, APC will take over governance in Rivers State,” Okocha said. “We aim to win the governorship, National Assembly, state Assembly, and local government elections. Our goal is to build on President Tinubu’s efforts to transform Nigeria.”

He also reiterated the party’s commitment to fostering unity within its ranks and ensuring an inclusive approach to leadership. Okocha praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for overseeing the congress and thanked the APC National Delegation for its role in ensuring a smooth process.

Other key party officials were also elected during the congress, including the Deputy Chairman, State Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Auditor, Women Leader, Youth Leader, Legal Advisor, and Zonal Leaders for the state’s three senatorial districts. The event was supervised by Dr. Joseph Alalibo, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State.

With this new leadership, the APC in Rivers State has signaled its determination to strengthen its political position and contest for dominance in the 2027 elections.
