Anambra State Governor Clarifies: No Ban on Evangelism, Focus is on Noise Pollution frontpage news

The Anambra State Government has sealed off a controversial shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area, following multiple complaints from residents about its operations.

The shrine, reportedly run by self-proclaimed native doctor, Ekene Igboegbueze, was allegedly used to lure unsuspecting individuals with promises of instant wealth. Authorities shut it down as part of a government crackdown on illegal spiritual operations in the state.

Crackdown on Fake Spiritual Practices

Leading the operation, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, stated that the closure was based on multiple reports from locals about suspicious activities at the shrine.

“All items found in the shrine will undergo forensic examination, and the results will determine further government action,” Emeakayi said.

He also noted that Igboegbueze’s business was illegal under the Anambra State Homeland Security Laws, and that properties linked to the operation had also been sealed.

Authorities Warn Against Patronizing Fake Spiritual Leaders

Speaking on the growing influence of fraudulent spiritual operations, Chinenye Ihenko, Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, warned youths against falling for fake native doctors and pastors.

“The activities of fake spiritual leaders are fueling a get-rich-quick mentality in the state,” Ihenko said.
“Our mandate is to sanitize Anambra, and we are committed to that. Anything contributing to the desecration of the state or aiding criminal activities will be eradicated.”

Government’s Stand on Illegal Shrines

This latest action is part of the Anambra State Government’s broader initiative to crack down on fraudulent spiritual operations, which authorities believe contribute to ritual crimes and financial scams.

Ihenko urged young people to pursue legitimate means of making a living, warning that patronizing such shrines could lead to legal consequences.

The government has assured the public that it will continue monitoring illegal spiritual activities and take decisive action against individuals exploiting citizens under false pretenses.
