The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has advised residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to avoid using roadside transport operators, citing security concerns, especially as the festive season approaches. This advice was given during the inauguration of the Karu Motor Park on Wednesday in Abuja.

Maikalangu emphasized that using designated motor parks like the newly opened Karu facility can help reduce “one-chance” robberies—where criminals pose as legitimate transport operators to target unsuspecting passengers. The newly established Karu Motor Park boasts 136 parking spaces and additional amenities, including toilets, restaurants, and shops, making it an attractive and secure option for travelers.

“The park will serve multiple purposes, not only improving security by reducing criminal activities but also boosting the economy, as it will draw patrons from within and outside Abuja,” Maikalangu said. He highlighted the park’s capacity to support both intra-city and inter-state transport systems, particularly serving the Jikwoyi axis and neighboring areas.

To further enhance security, Maikalangu announced plans to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and maintain a constant presence of security personnel at the park. He added that he has collaborated with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to expand similar facilities across the capital, aiming to minimize crime and provide safe travel points for residents.

“I urge residents traveling out of Abuja or within the city to use these parks instead of relying on roadside motorists,” Maikalangu advised, underscoring the importance of these initiatives in fostering a safer environment for all FCT residents.
