The Akwa Ibom State Government has officially declared Friday, November 29, 2024, as a work-free day to honour the late First Lady, Mrs. Patience Umo Eno. This gesture allows residents of the state and well-wishers to pay their final respects to the beloved First Lady, who passed away on September 26, 2024, after a brief illness.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah, in Uyo, the state capital, the government expressed its decision to dedicate the day to her memory in collaboration with her bereaved family.
Mrs. Patience Eno will be laid to rest on November 29, 2024, in her husband’s hometown, Ikot Ekpene Udo, located in the Nsik-Ibium Local Government Area of the state.
The statement reads:
“Further to the final home-going programme of our departed First Lady, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Government, in consultation with the bereaved family, has declared Friday, November 29, 2024, a work-free day in honour of our dear mother.
“This is to enable Akwa Ibomites to pay their last respect to our mother at her obsequies in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsik Ubuim Local Government Area of the state on that day.
“May the gentle soul of our departed First Lady find repose in the bosom of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
The announcement underscores the deep respect and affection held for the late Mrs. Patience Eno, who is remembered for her contributions to the state and its people during her tenure as First Lady. Her passing has left a significant void, and her final journey will be marked by prayers, tributes, and a solemn celebration of her life.
