Adventures Abroad: A Traveler’s Insights, Cultural Discoveries, and Wish List for Nigeria – Nosa Rex

Do you enjoy travelling ?

Yes, I really enjoy traveling. Although it can sometimes be stressful, especially when visiting multiple countries, the overall experience is exciting and fulfilling.

Travel Frequency:
On average, I travel three to four times a year. I often visit London for events or personal celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries with my wife.

Most Fascinating Experiences:
Each country brings its own unique vibe. I’ve been to the US, UK, Dubai, Maldives, and Mauritius. London feels like a second home.

Cultural Intrigue:
The Maldives was particularly fascinating as they embrace their culture with pride, unlike in Nigeria where cultural practices are often sidelined. In places like the Maldives and Mauritius, preserving culture attracts visitors who pay to experience it.

Experimenting with Food:
I don’t usually try new foods due to sensitivity, though my wife enjoys it.

Memorable Culture Shock:
One surprise was seeing a large statue with people praying and leaving gifts at its feet. While I found this unusual, I respect their traditions, though my belief is that God is everywhere.

Stereotyping:
Not exactly. Sometimes people looked at me curiously, especially when I wore unique outfits like palazzo pants. One person even guessed I was Nigerian, remarking that Nigerians are stylish.

Friendships Made:
Yes, I made friends, though mostly for the duration of my stay. I tend to connect with those in similar fields like content creation.

Tourist Spots Visited:
In Mauritius, I visited art and craft workshops, took a boat cruise to a waterfall, and saw a multi-colored rock that seemed like a sacred site.

Travel Essentials:
I pack light, carrying essentials like my wallet, simple sneakers, a cap, and a few clothes, along with snacks like biscuits.

Advice for Traveling to Mauritius:
Mauritius offers a great experience as long as you have the budget for it. I recommend visiting with a partner to fully enjoy it. Unlike the Maldives, where staying on the island limits exploration, in Mauritius, you can venture out even from a remote resort.

Best Reception:
The US fans were fantastic, but I get the warmest reception in London, where I have friends and family. The energy there is unmatched.

Preferred Citizenship:
If offered citizenship, I’d likely choose Canada, the US, or the UK. However, I’m not currently looking to relocate.

Pre-Travel Checks:
I check the weather, available flights, local cuisine, and any events happening at the destination. I prefer moderate weather.

Travel Insurance:
No, I don’t typically have travel insurance.

Things to Replicate in Nigeria:
Mauritius has an upgraded version of our tricycles. In Nigeria, we have many good things, but we lack a strong maintenance culture. I wish our environment could be as clean and well-kept as in some other countries.
