Nigerian international Ademola Lookman sealed a dramatic late victory for Atalanta against AC Milan on Friday in a closely contested Serie A encounter at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo. Lookman’s 87th-minute header secured a 2-1 win, propelling Atalanta to the top of the league table with 34 points.
Lookman, a 2024 CAF Awards nominee, capitalized on a flicked pass from former Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac, stooping low to direct the ball past Milan’s goalkeeper. The goal ensured Atalanta claimed all three points in a crucial match.
The game began with an early lead for Atalanta, courtesy of Belgian forward Charles De Ketelaere. The 23-year-old scored a powerful header from a well-delivered free kick by Marten De Roon in the 12th minute.
AC Milan quickly responded 10 minutes later through Spanish striker Alvaro Morata. Rafael Leao set up the equalizer with a characteristic burst down the left flank, delivering a precise low cross for Morata to convert. The assist marked Leao’s fourth in the league this season.
Lookman had an earlier opportunity to score in the 43rd minute. Breaking in from the left flank, he fired a shot that narrowly missed the target.
Atalanta’s strong season continues, with the team achieving 11 wins, one draw, and three losses in their 15 league matches. They currently sit two points clear of Napoli and three points ahead of Inter in the Serie A standings.
