The Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja granted bail of N2 million to Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, with stringent conditions following his arraignment for unauthorized use of a police uniform. Otse, who appeared in Court 1, Wuse Zone 6, faced charges related to a viral video where he wore a police uniform and claimed the title of “CSP of an online division.” His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, outlined the bail terms, which include two sureties who must deposit international passports, provide utility bills, identification, and reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
Adeyanju added that the court has stipulated an affidavit from Otse affirming his commitment to appear in court throughout his trial. The prosecutor is tasked with verifying the sureties’ addresses.
Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, was detained on Thursday after apologizing publicly, claiming he was unaware of the protocol requiring permission to wear police uniforms. He cautioned other content creators to seek necessary clearance before using similar attire in their productions.
Adeyanju, in a post on social media platform X, highlighted Otse’s cooperation with the police, stating, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation…he has consistently stated the Nigerian Police are our friends.”
