Abuja Court Grants ₦1 Billion Bail to 109 Foreign Nationals Accused of Cybercrime

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail totaling ₦1 billion to 109 foreign nationals accused of involvement in high-level cybercrime and hacking activities allegedly threatening national security.

Justice Ekerete Akpan delivered the ruling on Friday, following a bail application by the defense counsel, James Onoja, SAN. The application was not opposed by the prosecution counsel, A.A. Egwu.

As part of the bail conditions, each defendant must provide five sureties, with the sureties owning landed properties within Abuja. Additionally, the sureties must submit two recent passport photographs and the original copies of their passports to the court’s deputy registrar.

The judge directed that the defendants themselves must also surrender their original passports to the court.

Further details on the case and bail implementation are expected to emerge.
