The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Dare Adeleke, a casual worker at Maigida Company, a subsidiary of Dangote Cement Industry, Ibese, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. The incident occurred during an industrial accident involving a rolling conveyor belt.
Details of the Accident
According to a statement by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, the accident happened while Adeleke and his colleagues were cleaning limestone materials beneath a rolling conveyor belt. During the cleanup, Adeleke’s shovel accidentally came into contact with the roller belt, which pulled both the shovel and the victim into the crusher.
Odutola explained, “The incident was reported at the Ibese police post by a security guard, Mohammed Muktar. The deceased, a casual worker at Maigida Company under Dangote Cement Factory, was identified as Dare Adeleke.”
Emergency Response and Aftermath
Following the incident, Adeleke was promptly extracted from the machine and rushed to the onsite hospital, Jajo Clinic. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries, and the attending doctor confirmed his death.
Odutola further stated, “The deceased and his colleagues were using shovels to clean limestone beneath a rolling conveyor belt at the factory when Adeleke’s shovel accidentally came into contact with the roller, leading to the fatal accident. His body has been transferred to the mortuary at the Ilaro State Hospital for an autopsy, and efforts are underway to locate his family.”
