National Economic Council Convenes in Abuja with Shettima at the Helm

The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, presided over the latest National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The high-profile gathering drew governors from across the country and federal administrators tasked with steering Nigeria’s economic direction.

Among those present were the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Chairman, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and Progressive Governors’ Forum leader, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State. Other governors included Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Charles Soludo (Anambra), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), and Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo).

The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), was also in attendance, adding to the diverse representation across the federation.

The NEC is constitutionally mandated to advise the President on matters concerning the economy, particularly revenue allocation, policy coordination, and fiscal planning. Thursday’s meeting highlighted the council’s continuing role as a platform where national economic strategies are fine-tuned.
