The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed off a pharmacy located on Onitsha Crescent, Area 11 – Garki, Abuja, for engaging in the sale of expired and unregistered drugs. This action, which underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health, followed a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
Discovery of Expired Products
During the enforcement operation, NAFDAC officials uncovered expired products valued at over seven million naira. Among the items seized were expired “H-Pylori†test kits, which pose severe risks to public health.
In a statement released on Saturday via the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, NAFDAC detailed the findings:
“Acting on a tip-off from a concerned citizen, NAFDAC’s enforcement team uncovered several expired items worth over seven million naira, including expired ‘H-Pylori’ test kits, which posed significant risks to public health.â€

Arrests and Legal Actions
The pharmacy’s Managing Director and Superintendent Pharmacist were arrested during the operation and are being questioned as part of the investigation. NAFDAC assured the public that stringent sanctions will be imposed on those responsible as a deterrent to unethical practices within the pharmaceutical sector.
Challenges During the Operation
NAFDAC’s enforcement team faced resistance during the raid. Staff members at the pharmacy reportedly attempted to obstruct the operation, but officials successfully confiscated the expired products and secured the premises.
Public Health Warning
NAFDAC used the opportunity to urge the public to remain vigilant when purchasing regulated products. The agency emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office to prevent similar incidents.
“NAFDAC urges the public to remain vigilant when purchasing regulated products and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office,†the statement concluded.
A Step Towards Accountability
This operation highlights the crucial role of citizen vigilance and proactive enforcement in combating unethical practices in the healthcare sector. By ensuring the removal of harmful products from circulation, NAFDAC continues to prioritize public health and safety.
The agency’s actions also serve as a warning to businesses engaged in the sale of unregistered and expired products, emphasizing that such practices will not be tolerated.
