NAFDAC Seals 18 Warehouses in Niger Over N100m Worth of Expired Food Products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down 18 warehouses in Bida, Niger State, after uncovering large quantities of expired food and beverage products valued at approximately N100 million.

According to a statement issued by the agency’s Resident Media Consultant, Mr. Olusayo Akintola, the affected warehouses were located around Ndazabo White House along Minna Road, behind Bida Modern Market in Niger State.

The enforcement operation was carried out by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement team following credible intelligence reports. Officials discovered expired non-alcoholic beverages, dairy milk, candies, bottled water, pasta, and other consumables during the raid.

Among the items seized were 80,000 packets of expired non-alcoholic drinks, 5,000 packets of dairy milk, 16,000 packets of bottled water, and 28 cartons of pasta, many of which had already been packaged for distribution.

NAFDAC confirmed that managers of the affected warehouses were arrested for questioning as investigations continue.

Preliminary findings reportedly linked the facilities to a company identified as BY Ventures, prompting officials to extend the operation to supermarkets owned by the same company in Minna. Additional expired products and alleged counterfeit Goya oil were discovered at the retail outlets, which were subsequently sealed.

The Managing Director of the company, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo, was invited for further interrogation and reportedly admitted ownership of the expired goods.

NAFDAC said investigations are ongoing and assured that appropriate regulatory sanctions will be imposed at the conclusion of the probe to serve as a deterrent to others engaged in similar practices.
