Nigerian comedian and media personality Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, widely known as Mr Jollof, has offered a public apology following a physical altercation with controversial social media critic Martins Otese, popularly called VeryDarkMan (VDM), aboard an aircraft on Monday, November 17.
In a video message shared on his Instagram page, Mr Jollof expressed regret over the incident, extending apologies to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), United Nigeria Airlines, his employer—the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori—as well as his family, the passengers who witnessed the fight, and Nigerians at large.
The comedian insisted that he acted purely in self-defence, claiming that VDM confronted and provoked him before the situation escalated.
“I want to sincerely apologise to the NCAA, United Nigeria Airlines, and everyone who was onboard. I never intended to cause a scene or delay anyone. I reacted to defend myself, but I regret that things got out of hand. This is not who I am, and it won’t happen again,” he said.
Addressing his family, he added: “To my lovely wife and my kids, I’m sorry. To my boss, His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori, I apologise. This behaviour is unlike me.”
How the Altercation Began
Mr Jollof explained that he was quietly seated when VDM allegedly approached him with insults and threats.
According to him, VDM repeatedly taunted him, saying:“If we come down from this plane, I go slap you. Make God punish your papa. I fit commot from here now come slap you.”
Jollof said he warned him to “behave,” but the critic eventually advanced toward him, prompting him to react.
Why He Bit VDM During the Fight
The comedian also addressed viral reports that he bit VDM during the scuffle. He admitted it, explaining that in a chaotic situation, instinct can take over.

“Mike Tyson used what God gave him. In a fight, when someone brings a knife to a gun battle, you use whatever you can,” he said humorously, justifying his action.
He further claimed that “3,000mg of blows” landed on VDM during the confrontation, emphasizing that he simply defended himself against perceived aggression.
