Richard Mofe-Damijo, a veteran actor in Nollywood, turned 61 on Wednesday.
At midnight, the actor posted pictures of himself to Instagram. He thanked friends, family, business associates, and “the hands in the creative industry that have given me so much joy and opportunities to shoot my shot!” in the caption.
“61 years and counting! Extremely appreciative of God’s grace in my life. The remainder of his message added, “Birthdays are an opportunity to look both forward and back, and all I see is God’s grace upon the life of this shy Warri boy that said yes to life.”
Over the course of her more than 40-year acting career, Mofe-Damijo has received numerous awards and starred in numerous motion pictures. He was named the Best Actor in a Leading Role winner of the 2005 Africa Movie Academy Award. In 2016, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
He recently acted in the movies “Love Is War,” “Fine Wine,” and “King of Boys: The Return of the King.”
In addition, he served as Delta State’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism from 2009 until 2015.
Mofe-Damijo was wed to May Ellen “MEE” Ezekiel, a talk show personality and journalist/publisher. He wedded TV celebrity Jumobi Adegbesan after she passed away in 1996. Jumobi Adegbesan eventually quit TV presenting to work in corporate America.
Mofe-Damijo is the father of five children—three from his first marriage and two from his current spouse.
