The Nigerian Armed Forces have once again demonstrated their resilience in the fight against terrorism, with multiple successful operations leading to the elimination of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents in Borno and Yobe States.
Repelled Attack on Governor’s Convoy Route
A credible military insider confirmed that on August 22, troops from the 21 Special Armored Brigade repelled an attempted attack on their Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kumshe, a route often associated with security threats targeting Governor Babagana Zulum’s convoy.
The insurgents launched a coordinated night assault with various weapons but were overwhelmed by ground forces and aerial support from the Nigerian Air Force.
The source narrated: “Exploitation after the encounter revealed more than 20 bodies of neutralised terrorists, including dismembered remains hastily buried in shallow graves. Some weapons were also recovered during the operation.”
Banki Junction Firefight Ends in Terrorist Defeat
Sector 1 forces simultaneously executed an offensive at Dipchari near Banki Junction, Bama Local Government Area. The operation left many insurgents dead and yielded significant arms recovery. Among the items seized were Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and motorcycles used by the fighters for mobility.
Joint Efforts with Civilian Forces in Yobe
In a separate operation on August 23, Sector 2 troops collaborated with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to confront terrorists in Ndoksa, near Buni Gari, Yobe State. More terrorists were neutralised, while troops recovered motorcycles and rifles.
Sustained Dominance
The series of operations mark a turning point in military efforts to dominate insurgent strongholds, dismantle their supply structures, and secure communities.
Frontpagenews.ng reports that these victories are being hailed as significant milestones in the ongoing fight against terrorism, bringing renewed hope to residents of conflict-prone areas.
