A rapidly escalating conflict involving the United States and Israel has reportedly led to the killing of several top Iranian military and political figures, deepening fears of a broader regional war.
Among those reported killed are senior officials including Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader; Ali Shamkhani; Mohammed Pakpour; and Amir Nasirzadeh. Reports also indicate that former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed in a targeted strike while under house arrest.
Retaliation and Rising Casualties
In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone attacks across the region. Israeli authorities confirmed that at least nine people were killed in strikes on Beit Shemesh, with dozens injured and several still missing as rescue operations continue.

World leaders, including Vladimir Putin and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, condemned the strikes, describing them as violations of international law.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump signalled openness to negotiations with Iran’s new leadership, even as military operations continue.
Tensions have also rattled global energy markets after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard reportedly moved to block the Strait of Hormuz—a critical route for nearly a fifth of the world’s oil supply. Oil prices have since climbed amid fears of supply disruptions.
Regional Disruptions and Humanitarian Concerns
The conflict has disrupted air travel across the Middle East, with more than 19,000 flights delayed or cancelled, affecting hundreds of thousands of passengers. Several Gulf countries have also reported casualties and infrastructure damage linked to the strikes.
