The Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the gruesome murder of a seven-year-old boy, Evans Okojabhole, in Irrua, Edo Central. The suspects, identified as Pastor Ijebor Simon (45) and Destiny Okojabhole (23), are currently in custody as investigations continue.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Moses Yamu, the case was reported by the child’s father, John Okhojibole, who resides on Jehovah Witness Road, off Elebesunu Street, Irrua.
Horrific Discovery in the Bush
Evans Okojabhole was declared missing 24 hours before his body was discovered in a nearby bush with his stomach ripped open, feet severed from the ankle, and fingers cut off.
The statement read:
“The Command is in receipt of a case of murder reported by one John Okhojibole of Jehovah Witness Road, Irrua. The unfortunate incident was reported on February 22, 2025, at about 13:45 hours when the remains of his seven-year-old son, Evans Okojabhole, were sighted in a bush close to their house. His stomach was ripped open, feet severed, and some fingers cut off.”
Following initial investigations, operatives from the Irrua Divisional Headquarters arrested Pastor Ijebor Simon and Destiny Okojabhole and transferred them to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) in Benin City for further interrogation.
Vigilante Commander Murdered on Farm, Three Arrested
In a separate incident, the police arrested three suspects over the killing of a vigilante commander, Victor Ogedengbe (50), on his farm at Erah Camp, Owan East Local Government Area.
The Owan East Local Government Chairman reported the killing at the Afuze Police Division on February 25, 2025, at 07:30 hrs. Ogedengbe was allegedly attacked and killed by suspected herdsmen while working on his farm. His body was deposited at the hospital.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrests
Following the report, police operatives launched an immediate investigation, which led to the arrest of three suspects:
- Ibrahim Agboje (King)
- Yakubu Abudulkareem
- Kareem Audu
The trio, all from Erah Community, have also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for further questioning.
Security Reinforcement in Okpekpe Following Killings by Suspected Herdsmen
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has reviewed security measures in Uzanu and surrounding areas following the killing of two farmers by suspected herdsmen in Okpekpe Community.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring safety in Edo State.
“The Command remains dedicated to ensuring a safer Edo State. We appreciate the support of the public and encourage everyone to report any suspicious activities. If you see something, say something,” the statement concluded.
