Caretaker head coach Michael Carrick has described leading Manchester United as the “ultimate role,” saying he feels privileged to be in charge at Old Trafford during a crucial period for the club.

Speaking in an interview with The Football Interview, Carrick reflected on stepping into the role following the departure of Ruben Amorim, revealing that the opportunity felt natural rather than overwhelming.

“For me, it’s the ultimate role,” Carrick said. “I’m really enjoying it. I love what I’m doing and I feel privileged to be in this position.”

He disclosed that he was driving when he received the call offering him the chance to take over. Instead of reacting emotionally, he remained composed.

“It was a nice thing to hear — of course it was — but I was quite calm about it. It just felt right,” he said, adding that his wife was the first person he informed.

Since taking charge, Carrick has overseen a resurgence in form, guiding United to 13 points from five league matches and pushing the club back into the Premier League top four.
