Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that the upgraded Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (Ibadan) will be positioned as a top investment center in Nigeria.
The governor spoke at The Jagz Hospitality Conference and reiterated his commitment to attract domestic and international investors through infrastructure improvements and strategic policies.
According to Governor Makinde, the recent upgrade of the airport — including runway extension and other facilities — marks a major turning point for the 43‑year‑old facility.
He said that this upgrade has “rewritten its history” and signaled Ibadan’s readiness to compete among Nigeria’s major airport hubs in terms of passenger traffic and business activity.

Makinde outlined his administration’s strategy:
* Continue implementing policies that make Ibadan welcoming for investors.
* Support businesses (local and foreign) to thrive despite Nigeria’s broader economic challenges.
* Use the airport upgrade as a catalyst for wider economic growth in Oyo state, especially in agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and tourism industries.
The Governor also noted that the facility recently saw its first wide‑bodied aircraft land on the upgraded runway — a signal of its improved operational capacity.
