National Bureau of Statistics

According to Vanguard, the states of Bayelsa, Sokoto, Gombe, and Kebbi have the highest rates of child multidimensional poverty in Nigeria.

In all 36 states, the child MPI is above 50%; however, in the states stated above, the incidence is over 95%.

This was disclosed in the kid MPI data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Sunday under the heading “Nigeria Launches its Most Extensive National Measure of Multidimensional Poverty.”

When a kid is raised without adequate access to the basic resources they require to survive and lead a fulfilling life, it is referred to as child poverty.

The NBS added that, according to geopolitical zones, there are more impoverished youngsters in the North-East and North-West than in the South-East and South-West.

The majority of Nigerian children living in poverty are in rural areas, according to the research.

Nearly 90% of children in rural areas live in poverty, indicating how common child poverty is there.

According to the child MPI, poverty is lower in the South-East and South-West (74% and 65.1%, respectively) and higher in the North-East and North-West (where 90% of children live in poverty).

According to NBS, “Child MPI is more than 50% prevalent in all states and more than 95% prevalent in Bayelsa, Sokoto, Gombe, and Kebbi.”

The report went on to say, “A child who is 15–17 years old and the first person in that household to finish primary school lives with four million Nigerians – 2.1% of the population.”
