The Lagos State Police Command has detained Salisu Mustapha, the owner of three dogs that allegedly mauled a security guard to death at Pinnock Estate in Ilasan, Lekki. The incident, which took place on November 5, was brought to the attention of authorities after residents raised concerns on social media about the guard’s tragic death.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the dogs had reportedly escaped due to inadequate confinement, leading to the fatal attack. Hundeyin confirmed the arrest of Mustapha via a post on the Command’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that the dogs have been confiscated pending further investigation.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that justice will be served. “CP Ishola assures residents of the estate and the entire state that investigations will be brought to a conclusive end, and justice will be served appropriately,” Hundeyin said.

The tragic incident has raised concerns about pet ownership responsibilities and public safety within residential communities, with authorities emphasizing the need for responsible pet confinement and management to prevent similar occurrences.
