The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation sector with the reinstatement of direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, after 15 years of inactivity.
This strategic development was confirmed in a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, on Saturday.
According to the agency, officials from the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services are now stationed at the warehouses of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) to ensure real-time monitoring and revenue collection.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has recorded a landmark achievement with the successful resumption of direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after a 15-year hiatus,” the statement read.
Working in synergy with the Post Clearance Trade (PTC) Customs Area Command led by Comptroller T. Awe, FAAN revealed that the initiative is already plugging revenue leakages and boosting accountability within the cargo ecosystem.
The authority described the reform as a bold step toward creating a model that will be replicated in airports across the country, thereby optimizing cargo handling and fostering greater economic value.
Frontpagenews.ng reports that FAAN’s renewed drive aligns with its mission to strengthen transparency, improve operational efficiency, and foster inter-agency partnerships that will reposition Nigeria’s aviation industry.
