The Kwara State Police Command has successfully rescued 13 wedding guests who were abducted by armed kidnappers in Idofin-Igbana, Oke-Ero Local Government Area. The victims, traveling to a wedding in neighboring Kogi State, were taken on December 21, 2024, by assailants posing in military and civilian attire.

Details of the Abduction

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the victims included three females and ten males from various communities in Kwara and Oyo states. Among them were trailer drivers who were also heading to Kogi State.

The statement detailed that the assailants, six in number, intercepted the victims and forcibly abducted them. The kidnappers reportedly disguised themselves in military uniforms to deceive their targets.

Swift Rescue Operation

The rescue operation was carried out by a joint team comprising the police and personnel from the Oke-Ero Local Government Security Initiative. Acting on credible intelligence and tips from local informants, the team quickly located the kidnappers’ hideout in the Idofin-Igbana area.

The statement read, “Upon sighting the security team, the kidnappers, six in number and some dressed to disguise in military uniforms, engaged the operatives in a gun battle but were overpowered by the superior firepower of the rescue team.”

The successful operation led to the safe rescue of all 13 victims, who were unharmed.

The rescued individuals include residents from Odo-Owa in Oke-Ero Local Government Area, Ilorin, Ogbomoso, and a group of trailer drivers who were en route to Kogi State. Their safe return has brought relief to families and communities anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones.
