KWAM 1 Sues Ogun Govt Over Awujale of Ijebuland Throne

Popular Fuji artiste Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as KWAM 1, has taken his claim to the Awujale of Ijebuland throne to court, filing a suit at the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode over a disputed lineage to the revered royal stool.

Court documents obtained on Thursday reveal that the musician filed an application on Tuesday, seeking an interim injunction to halt the ongoing process for the installation of a new Awujale. The suit, dated December 16, 2025, is registered as Suit No: C3/238/2025 and is titled “In the High Court of Ogun State in the Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division Holden at Ijebu-Ode.”

In the case, KWAM 1 identified himself as Otunba Wasiu Olasunkanmi Ayinde Adesanya Marshal. Those named as respondents include Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; the Executive Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; the Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government; the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council; and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi.

The application before the court is a Motion Ex Parte, filed under Order 38 Rule 4 and Order 39 Rule 1 of the Ogun State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2024, alongside Sections 36 and 6(6)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the court’s inherent powers.

KWAM 1 is asking the court to issue an interim injunction restraining all the respondents, their agents or representatives, from taking any further steps toward the installation of a new Awujale of Ijebuland pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. He also urged the court to grant any additional orders it may consider appropriate in the circumstances.

According to the grounds stated in the application, the musician claims he is an aspirant to the Awujale stool and argues that judicial intervention is necessary to protect his interests and preserve the subject matter of the dispute from being altered or concluded before the court reaches a decision.

The legal action adds a new layer of complexity to the succession process for the Awujale of Ijebuland, as the court will now have to decide whether the installation process should be suspended until the substantive issues are resolved.

The suit follows an earlier rejection of KWAM 1’s lineage claim by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu-Ode, which reportedly declared his submitted linkage form invalid. The Fuji star had publicly expressed his intention to ascend the throne, basing his eligibility on alleged ancestral ties to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House—a claim that has been a subject of controversy.

However, documents indicate that in an official letter dated December 11, 2025, and signed by principal officers of the ruling house, the family acknowledged receipt of the completed particulars and linkage form submitted by Otunba Adesanya, even as questions over the validity of his claim persist.
