Kano First: Abba Yusuf Declares Loyalty to State After Joining APC

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has said his allegiance is firmly rooted in the interests of Kano and its people, stressing that no personal or political loyalty comes before the state.

The governor made the remarks on Monday shortly after formally joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the state.

Declaring his priorities, Yusuf said his decisions would always be guided by what best serves Kano. “My loyalty is clear and unshakeable. It is to Kano State and the people of Kano—Kano first, before any other consideration,” he stated.

In addition to his defection, the governor announced the creation of a Kano State Elders Council, which he described as a non-partisan body that will provide guidance and counsel to his administration. According to Yusuf, the council will be made up of respected elder statesmen and will focus on promoting unity, stability and long-term development.

“As part of our commitment to inclusion and sustainable governance, we are establishing the Kano Elders Council. It will operate as an advisory platform, free from partisan politics, and draw from the wisdom and experience of distinguished leaders,” he said.

As previously reported by Naija News, Yusuf’s defection was formally sealed at a ceremony held at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House. The event drew several high-ranking figures within the APC, including former Kano governor and past APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; and the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata.

Also present were senior party officials, members of the National Assembly and influential political stakeholders from across Kano State.

Addressing supporters at the event, Governor Yusuf explained that his decision to return to the ruling party was influenced by the need to strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government. He said the move would allow Kano to better align its development goals with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and unlock greater opportunities for growth and investment.
