Former President Goodluck Jonathan has pledged to engage President Bola Tinubu in discussions regarding the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
This commitment follows a meeting with activist Omoyele Sowore, who has been advocating for Kanu’s release.
Meeting Details
Sowore, a former presidential candidate, met with Jonathan in Abuja to address concerns over Kanu’s prolonged incarceration by the Department of State Services (DSS) on terrorism charges.
During their discussion, Jonathan acknowledged the urgency of the matter and agreed to approach President Tinubu to deliberate on possible resolutions.

He has garnered support from various political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who described Kanu’s continued detention as “an open sore on our nation’s conscience” and urged the government to either release him or ensure a fair trial.
Political and Regional Support
The call for Kanu’s release has transcended political affiliations, with leaders from different regions and backgrounds joining the advocacy.
Sowore has urged prominent figures, especially from the South-East, to lend their voices to the cause, emphasizing the importance of unity in addressing the issue.
