The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restarted its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across Nigeria, officially launching the second phase of the programme.

According to reports, the new phase commenced on Monday, following the conclusion of the initial registration round on December 10, 2025.

INEC had rolled out the first phase with an online pre-registration process that opened on August 18, 2025. This was later followed by physical registration at designated centres nationwide starting from August 25.

Data released by the commission shows that nearly 9.9 million Nigerians initiated the registration process online during the first phase. As of November 28, 2025, a total of 2,572,054 applicants had fully completed their registration. This figure comprises 1,503,832 people who finalized the process online and 1,068,222 who registered physically at enrolment centres.

INEC explained that the interval between the first and second phases was necessary to carry out statutory procedures. These included the public display of the voters’ register at local government offices to allow for corrections, claims, and objections.

With the resumption of registration, the commission urged eligible Nigerians who are yet to enroll to take advantage of the opportunity. Citizens can also use the exercise to transfer their polling units or update personal information such as names or dates of birth. Those who registered earlier have been encouraged to verify their details and report any discrepancies or irregular entries.

However, the CVR exercise remains suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing election-related activities. INEC assured residents of both locations that fresh registration dates will be announced once the activities are concluded.
