Hilda Baci’s Giant Pot Lands in Lagos Ahead of World’s Largest Jollof Rice Cook-Off

In the early hours of Thursday, a mammoth cooking pot destined for a ambitious record attempt by celebrity chef Hilda Baci arrived at Eko Hotel, signalling that the long-anticipated “World’s Largest Jollof Rice” cook-off is almost here.

The bright red pot, designed to hold a staggering 22,619 litres, was transported from Gbagada, where it was fabricated, to its new home in Lagos.

Size, Venue Shift & Logistics

Originally scheduled to be held at Muri Okunola Park, the event has been relocated to Eko Hotel Car Park B. Organisers cited safety, capacity, and the overwhelmingly high number of registrations as reasons for the venue change.

Hilda Baci revealed plans to fill the pot to 80% capacity, using 250 bags of rice. The pot dimsensions measure approximately 6 metres in width, about 1.1 metres in height, and 1.3 metres in depth. The ingredients anticipated include garlic, ginger, fresh thyme, rosemary, curry, among others.

Reactions & Readiness

Social media users greeted the arrival of the giant pot with both excitement and skepticism. Some are marveling at the achievement, others are questioning how the logistics will play out — from cooking the rice at such scale to concerns about weather, fuel source, and safety.

At 4:00 AM, Chef Baci confirmed via video that the pot had been moved safely. She expressed anticipation: “God is good… I’m still pinching myself this is actually happening…”
