Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has stated that he hopes to be remembered for his positive contributions to the state rather than his political battles. Obaseki shared this sentiment on Friday while addressing reporters after inaugurating the Airport Road Parks and Garden in Benin City.
Reflecting on his legacy as his term approaches its end, Obaseki commented, “Certainly not for the fights,†in reference to the numerous political challenges he has faced throughout his tenure.
Obaseki also highlighted plans to ensure the sustainability and community value of the newly inaugurated park, stating that a model was developed to generate revenue for its maintenance. “We created a revenue model where all income from billboards in this area will support the upkeep of the park. Additionally, the Prestige Hotel will provide backing, and the military has committed to supporting security efforts in the park,†he explained.
The governor hopes that the garden, alongside other public spaces, will attract local residents daily and contribute to the city’s recreational landscape.
