Fubara Dissolves Rivers State Pension Board Following Return to Office

Fubara Shuns Ibas in Broadcast After Resumption in Rivers State

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dissolved the Rivers State Pension Board, marking one of his first major administrative decisions since the restoration of democratic governance in the state.

The announcement was made on Thursday via an official statement from the Office of the Governor. While no specific reasons were provided for the dissolution, the move is believed to be part of a broader restructuring effort following the end of emergency rule in the state.

The Rivers State Pension Board, which oversees the administration of pensions and gratuities for retired public servants, had faced criticism in recent months over alleged delays in payments and lack of transparency in operations. The board was one of several institutions impacted during the six-month emergency rule imposed by the Federal Government earlier this year.

Governor Fubara, who resumed full duties last week, is expected to announce further changes across various state agencies in the coming days as part of efforts to restore institutional stability and improve service delivery.

The statement did not indicate whether a new pension management structure has been formed or when a replacement agency will be announced. Meanwhile, pensioners and stakeholders have called for transparency and continuity to ensure that the dissolution does not disrupt ongoing pension disbursements.

The Rivers State Government has yet to release an official roadmap for the management of pension affairs pending the formation of a new body.

Fubara’s administration is expected to clarify next steps in the coming days.
