Without SystemSpecs, There Would Be No TSA – Okolieaboh Commends Indigenous Fintech Firm

Nigeria’s Director of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Mr. Sylva Okolieaboh, has lauded the indigenous fintech firm SystemSpecs for its pivotal role in implementing the TSA, a key government policy. He emphasized that without SystemSpecs, the TSA would not have been possible.

Speaking in Abuja during a visit by officials from The Gambia on May 13, 2019, Mr. Okolieaboh highlighted how SystemSpecs stepped in when President Buhari ordered the immediate rollout of the TSA policy in 2015. “In fairness to SystemSpecs, they made it possible when the president gave the order. If they hadn’t provided their platform, it wouldn’t have happened,” he said.

While praising the government’s support, Mr. Okolieaboh noted that the TSA has seen widespread adoption across various organizations, although he expressed concern over the lack of compliance from the judiciary and the National Assembly, attributing their absence to political reasons. He assured that efforts are underway to address this issue.

He also expressed pride in the global recognition of Nigeria’s success with the TSA, pointing to the interest of other nations like The Gambia, Ethiopia, and others. “Our TSA is one of the most successful in the world, and we are aware of its impact, though we don’t make much noise about it,” he added.

The Gambia’s Accountant General, Mr. Momodou Lamin Bah, expressed satisfaction with Nigeria’s TSA implementation, describing it as a reference point across the continent. He also emphasized The Gambia’s desire to renew its partnership with Nigeria to share experiences and build on the success of the TSA.

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, further explained that the TSA is managed by the ministry, with SystemSpecs facilitating the process through its Remita e-payment platform, and expressed appreciation for The Gambia’s visit to study the system.
